Sunstrike - "Moira"

Drawing on the roots of an era - the 2nd half of the 80s - when an impetuous, vehement art form was in the making, and drawing on the chaos to create the codes needed for the advent of Black Metal, Sunstrike have released their first EP.

The seminal bands of the proto-black wave (Possessed, Hellhammer, Sabbat, etc.), who gave birth at the venerated altar of the death/thrash scene, explored the occult realms of the extreme and crystallised their style in the black litanies we know so well.

In this respect, Sunstrike's music is reminiscent of the sound of productions from yesteryear. Their razor-sharp compositions cut to the quick all the way through with murderous riffs, while the frantic rhythms contribute to the EP's old-school, visceral groove, making it an incandescent, sincere and oh-so-pleasurable work, while adding a ritualistic, more ambient touch like on the track "Hymna pre Selene".

With Sunstrike, there's no purification in the flames of gehenna or hellish redemption through the bottom, and the Slovakians, like Master's Hammer, choose divergent themes in their lyrics. The band's universe is rooted in the European mythological corpus, particularly Greek.

Under the moon and the starry sky, lightning, rock and fire come together for a meeting with Selene, the Gorgons and Persephone, the great queens of the night!

And while the band's name refers to the sun, they've also developed a taste for the extreme in their themes, as in the track "Sparagmos", an act of ritual dismemberment.

Moira' is Sunstrike's expiatory opus, sure to set your speakers alight for a long time to come. We hope it will!
